Random Things

I was on call this weekend. I was pleasantly busy. Friday night, I talked to a bunch of people but didn't see anything. Saturday I worked-cut a twist and saw a sick cow. That night, I saw a dog with IVDD; the owner then called me at 11:30 or so to tell me that the dog had some bloody diarrhea. I fell asleep on the couch and then went to bed...shortly, later (45 minutes) I was called for a calving. The calving went well-the front leg was bent under the calf's chest. It took me 1 hour and 15 minutes from the time from the time I got the phone call to the time I was back in bed. That included taking a shower. I slept for a couple hours, discussed the diarrhea dog again and called in an prescription, fell back asleep and then was woken up by another phone call. When I answered the phone, I heard someone say 'its a woman'. Never a good start. But luckily, it was a good call. A prolapse uterus that I struggled with but eventually got it back. They aren't supposed to be easy anyway. That afternoon, I saw a puppy that ended up having parvo. Unfortunately, they didn't have money to hospitalize the dog. I sent the dog home with some prescriptions and luck. The pup was still BAR and only mildly dehydrated. Hopefully, she'll  make it. Then I got home and promptly locked the keys in the vet truck. Oh, I'm awesome. TH didn't have a spare-the spare was in the locked vet box. So I had to call the roadside service people and wait for a truck to come and open it up.

My wedding dress came in! I'm going to try it on and get alterations started next week. I haven't lost ANY weight. I'm pathetic. Joe and I are going to try to finalize the guest list addresses. From there, we'll start addressing invitations and ger them sent out. Joe is currently asleep (GRRR!) so its going to be difficult to order his wedding band. Also unfortunately, its going to be close on time to get the wedding band in on time because I've waited. And my ring is going to be expensive. I was going to wait for my tax refund but unfortunately, the IRS is also running late. I still haven't found someone to marry us.

Mr. Montique peed in the sink this morning. I'm hoping it was because the litter box was dirty (it was) and that I had him trapped in the bathroom and not that he was working on blocking or a UTI. I definately can't afford a PU surgery.

I intended on being very productive today or at least to clean the oven but after I got some errands done this morning, I was exhausted. I took a nice nap and then made dinner. I also baked some chocolate chip cheesecake cookie bars. They look good but some aspects of the recipe didn't seem like they worked together very well.

Joe suggested that I start a podcast. I don't know about this. I just think that no one would be listening to me.

Joe's sister, Gabbi, had her baby earlier this week. A little boy-Henry Scott. He's still having a tough start but getting better. Much love to him!
Not very lady like. Veterinary medicine and winter take a toll on my hands. I might also have a hatred of lotion.

It's Fastnacht Day! Soulard and New Orleans has Mardi Gras, Pennsylvania has doughnuts.

Mr. Montique explains why I always recommend turning on the shower for your cats to drink from.

An Eye for An Eye

I've been super stressed lately. There's some big changes at work. I'd rather not talk about it. Hopefully, I can find some resolution in the coming weeks.
The other stressful situation is some cats that have diarrhea. I can't figure them out. It really sucks because BJR left them when she went on maternity leave. I absolutely can not wait till I get to go on maternity leave and leave a crazy case with crazy diagnostics for her to figure out. Likely, though, she probably wouldn't take the case and then TS would have to deal with it.

I still haven't found a wedding officiant. That's stressful too. AND Joe hasn't finished the picks for my number holders. So I haven't moved forward with those. And I need to work on invitations.

I got my taxes done today. Unfortunately, I didn't get much in the way of a refund. Apparently, if you don't move and work a full year, then you make too much to take many deductions. I was feeling crappy but I looked at some things at JoAnn's. I want a tool for putting snaps and eyelits (or grommits) on clothes. However, its $27. I can't justify that unless I get one big project lined out. I did see a metal crab that I thought Joe would like. Its like $18. I passed on it. Maybe later. Then I went to Old Navy because some jeans were on sale. I could only find one pair in a color I liked. I'm convinced that Old Navy changes their sizes all the time. I did also purchase a shirt with small cream colored cats on it. Cute for a vet! Then I went to Wal-Mart, managed not to stand in line forever and then bought the wrong drip pans for the oven. I'll have to exchange them tomorrow.

So I performed my third enucleation on Thursday. The sad part? The dog had only one eye to begin with. This dog I believe is the victim of poor breeding. When she gets ulcers, they are really bad and ultimately, her eye ruptures. When I saw her at the end of the week before last, she had a deep ulcer. TH saw her and it had ruptured. I saw her and it looked fine (giant, deep ulcer aside). But ultimately, I removed the eye. I wasn't pleased with this decision. The upside? The dog did great! When she woke up, she woke up smoothly and was responsive when you said her name. She'll do great as a blind dog.

So my mom and I are on the outs...AGAIN. I don't get it. She frustrates me so much.

It's cold in our house so Joe and Riley are hanging out for warmth!

Nacho Birthday!

Saturday was my birthday party. I had to work that morning so after coming home it became a frantic rush of cleaning and cooking. I had baked the cake and gluten free cupcakes Friday night and did a little cleaning.
So once home after a hectic morning of appointments-nothing too bad or stressful but a whole page worth!, I set to cleaning. Joe cleaned his room and the bathroom and I tackled finishing the dining room and did the living room. Then I moved upstairs to tidy the cat litter boxes and my bedroom. At four, I started cooking. Nacho cheese which Joe finished. Two pounds of hamburger, two cans of refried beans, icing the cakes. I did some decorating. I made enchiladas-green chili chicken which I thought were gross and gluten free beef enchilada casserole which was also gross. Did you know that gluten free tortilla shells will not roll up? We chopped and diced-onions, green onions, tomatoes, lettuce. Opened olives, salsa, sour cream and jalopenos. Joe made guacolmole and was bossed around. He made punch and put drinks-Woodchuck, Miller Chill, sodas and water in the cooler. I made Spanish rice. I made Mexican layer dips.
We had a full buffet of nacho fixings-lettuce, green onions, onions, tomatos, olives, salsa, sour cream, refried beans, meat, chips and of course cheese! Enchiladas and rice came out about half an hour after everyone showed up. We ate and drank. I was super excited to see Jenn and her boyfriend, Pete come in from Philly. I talked mostly to her. Then we went outside to take care of the pinata. It was freezing. Two or three wacks in and the candy went everywhere. We frantically picked up the candy and hurried inside for cake. Evenutally, the party wrapped up. Mr. Montique made a few appearances only wearing his sombero and poncho once. He wasn't pleased.

Cute, but not pleased.  Oh, and Sunday, as I started to clean the chaos a party leaves behind, I thought I'd bake some cinnamon rolls...however, I forgot that the cake was still in the oven. SO I didn't get any left over cake, I ruined my pie server and well, the house smelled really, really bad.

In other news, I got our wedding invitations in the mail. I need to recheck them after hearing that one of my friends had put the wrong date on her's. I'll be sending them out pretty soon. I meet with the cake baker today and tonight, Joe and I will be trying out the cake samples-chocolate with salted caramel filling and vanilla with lemon cream cheese filling. I need to find an officiant and buy wedding bands. I think I might have to wait till tax refunds on the wedding bands. I'm going to suck it up and call an officiant today. I HATE talking on the phone regarding wedding things.

I need to RSVP to the CYP event coming up. I invited two of the techs but kind of regret it a little. I'm super excited to get them involved but at the same time, I kind of wish I hadn't. Oh well, I considered not going because this is a wine and chocolate tasting. There's going to be a fee for this one too. I don't like wine. Though I do like chocolate and being social...

I'm not sure what else is going on.

Social Media

I wanted to announce, officially, that I am launching a new aspect of my social media networking empire. I'm going to start mobile blogging. Initally, I thought that it would be a separate website but I figured out how to add it to this blog. I'm going to keep it mainly to photos with captions because I think this blog lacks pictures. Lacks them a lot. I think that too, I'm going to try to publish several photos a week-things I see driving around Cumberland county, cute animals, random funniness, lots of photos of my animals. (Of course.)

The one line blog is going to be restricted to Twitter and then of course, Facebook for photos and status updates in the short-term. And longer blogs here for details.

And I'm still on Pinterest.

But I've retired Xanga, though blogs are still posted there and MySpace.

I'm going to start mobile blogging so that there will be more pictures on my blog.
Okay...maybe mobile blogging isn't for me...

Dog Park Idiots

So when Joe and I moved to Pennsylvania, we left behind Columbia, land of lesbians and subsequently, dog parks. And I'm super thankful for those lesbians making Columbia a wonderful place to live if you have dogs.

I remember the first summer when we were here and we told the dogs that we were going to the dog park. The dogs know the meaning of the words 'dog park'. Actually, they now even know the series of events that leads up to them going to the dog park. I get up earlier than Joe, he gets up, Joe takes a bath and then goes outside and moves the car. By then, the dogs are all rilled up to go, barking and carrying on. Its difficult to even get their leashes on.

Anyway, that summer day, we told the dogs that we were going to the dog park. They bounced around and we went to the park. Once there, we were disappointed but the dogs were visibly crushed. The dog park consisted of two grassy lots (one for large dogs, one for small) surrounded with chain link fence and multiple trees. The dogs were like, 'why did you bring us to someone's back yard? Where's the water?' They romped about and had a decent time. Mary stole a stuffed animal. We didn't go back to this park in Shippensburg. Since then, we've been going to the park in Mechanicsburg. Its no better. I'm not sure what Pennsylvania's deal is with separating out big and little dogs. Maybe because the parks are so small relative to Columbia's parks.

When we heard that Carlisle was getting a dog park, Joe and I were excited. We cruised the proposed area and wondered where it would be. This area was full of trees. Where would the dogs run? We didn't hold our breathes. Then the park openned. The information came out. For $90 and the proper forms (proof of vaccinations, proof of spaying/neutering, proof of licensing), you could have a year long membership. Initially, Joe and I considered it. We sent in our information but never went. The park wasn't open convienent hours for us. In fact, we got a call from the group wondering where we were. Joe was happy taking the dogs to Mechanicsburg. We were't paying for a park that we couldn't use all the time-in fact, it was locked when no one was there. LOCKED! (It should also be noted, that I rarely take the dogs to the park because well, I get enough dogs at work.)

It also should be noted that no matter where you go to the dog park, there will be people that freak out when dogs act like dogs. People will freak out when dogs wrestle even in good natured fun. People will freak out when a dog gets a little too agressive when chasing a ball. Sadie.

So when people come into the office and mention that they take their dogs to the dog park, I always ask where they go. Most of the time, they go to Shippensburg. But I'm always hoping for a secret dog park. Someone told me of one once, but its not fenced and our dogs (the corgis) tend to run off. The other day, I saw a limping dog. Her limping gets worse when she goes to the dog park-she frequents the Carlisle dog park. So the owners and I talk about the park for a while before we start the dog's exam. I mention something about not wanting to pay for the dog park. These people counter with you know that everyone's dog has been fixed and vaccinated. Good point. They tell me that everyone looks out for each others dogs. They tell me that the park got a fund from Alpo for a key card system so you could go whenever if you signed up. (Okay, but I'm going to let in all the riff-raff.) THEN as if what they were telling me didn't ring with the psycho over-control that Pennsylvanians are so fond of, they tell me that there are no balls or toys in the park. No one plays with them unless the dogs are known to do well together playing ball. Umm...that's why we go to the park-to have a large fenced area to throw the ball and play fetch. Seriously, no balls? Anyway, this park sounds like a dictatorship.

Needless to say, we won't be paying $90 to join the Carlisle Dog Park anytime soon. Even if we did, I have a feeling that they aren't going to like Sadie (23 pounds) playing with dogs over 30 pounds. (And, even more, I have a feeling that she's going to get kicked out for being rough.) Our dogs ARE bad dogs.

Super Excited!

Hello All!
I'm super excited...not only because tomorrow is my birthday but also because this weekend I'm having the NACHO BIRTHDAY PARTY! I'm super excited. So excited that I'm having hard time sitting still tonight...I just want to clean and decorate the house.
Today, I bought groceries up at Wegmans. I also (and most importantly) bought the pinata. And some decorations. And a small sombreo for Mr. Montique to wear. I had to debate for a really, really long time about getting him a poncho too. I'm still planning on making him one. The food (enchiladas, nachos and Spanish rice) and drinks are planned if not purchased. I'm super excited. OH, and my friend, Jenn from Philly is coming!

So the Kay Jewelers in the mall got robbed. I always wondered how that store managed to stay open. Will this be the nail in its coffin? The reporter on the link is HORRIBLE. And the police say that this robber was brazen because its in a mall...yes, a mall without many other stores. Though, come to think of it, I WOULD notice if there was someone in the Kay's.

I was on call this weekend. It was pretty easy. I saw a couple of cases Saturday morning, fielded a couple of calls in the afternoon and went out for a milk fever first thing in the AM Sunday. It was of course at the house of the people that don't like me. I think it went well. Saturday night, I also got a crank call. I wasn't sure what the people were saying because they sounded hysterical so I had them keep repeating it. Then there was laughter and I hung up. Oh! And on Friday, we had some new clients. One of which was my friend, Dan, from the CYP group. He was super cool and funny as always as he brought in his first pet, a kitten named Figero. I have to call him back re: the fecal sample and I'm going to recommend a bath and probably will have to discuss how to bathe a cat.
Did I mention that BJR went out on maternity leave very suddenly last week? Leaving behind lots of stuff for us (me) to catch up on. Including some crazy fecal test that I had to try to figure out its meaning. Ugh.

Wedding stuff is going well. I ordered wedding invitations. I found a wedding cake baker. I really, really, really need to find a wedding officiant. And order wedding bands. And Joe needs to get on painting the wedding card things. I was going to work on those this weekend but didn't. Oh, have I lost any weight? No. I haven't even tried. You'd think that a wedding and most importantly a dress that 10 pounds of weight loss is needed for would be motivation but its not for me. Nothing is for me.

I went to the dentist today. One of my decidious teeth is threatening to fall out. It doesn't really have any roots left and the crown has a huge cavity to it-its hollow essentially. This dentist is not a crook unlike the last one. He's young (probably my age) and somewhat cute!

We watched the Super Bowl for a little while while eating sliders and hot wings. Then we watched Downton Abbey and missed the rest of the game.

Tonight, I might try to get some sewing done. I was going to make a paleo meatloaf but Joe doesn't feel so hot because of the hot wings (I'm secretly ready for some more.). We'll have it tomorrow. I'll bake some strawberry muffins instead.
