Dog Costumes!

I tried posting this before but my laptop keeps having fits and I don't know anything about HTML coding. I'm going to try again.

Dressing dogs up in homemade costumes are my thing. There's nothing that sends me into a fit of hysterical laughter faster than a dog wearing a costume. Or a cat for that matter. I love it. Animals in my house must be willing to wear a costume and suffer a little indignity.

Let's look back over the past costumes I've made.

This is Riley as a puppy at a horse show. I made a handmade costume using felt and dressed Riley up as a dinosaur. She was super cute, obviously! We won the dog costume contest. Who could resist her?

This is Riley as an ear of corn (a corn dog!). This was our first entry at the PetCo costume contest at Halloween. Riley won it. It was really decided here that detail is what does well. I stitched each of those corn kernels on the body. The ones on the party hat were done with magic marker.

For Riley's first birthday, I had a circus themed party. I made Riley and Roosevelt each wear 'clown collars'. They actually looked more like scrunchies but they were cute!
The next Halloween I decided that Riley and Roosevelt each needed to wear a costume as part of a group. Unfortunately, due to the 200+ hand sewn cotton balls, Roosevelt's costume didn't get done to go to PetCo. Riley went alone and won first place again! Roosevelt didn't mind wearing his costume!
Mary even got in on the action!

While Roosevelt did appear to be quite happy with the sheep costume, he didn't enjoy the penquin hat nearly as much. However, it was always good to cheer me up!

The third year of our PetCo Halloween costume entries was to be another cat and dog combination costume-a walrus and penquin. Unfortunately, Roosevelt was lost befor the costume could be completed. We finished the morning of lacking all the detail that my costumes normally have. Bess, the new cat, wore the costume. We got third place. Its difficult to beat a chicken wearing a costume!

After we moved to Pennsylvania, it became Mary's turn to wear the costume! I was on call during the costume contest at PetSmart so I sent Joe with his dog dressed as Sherlock Bones. They won second place!
My pet costume love affair isn't resticted to my own animals. I made this cute tie and shirt for Wampus, the temporary clinic cat, so he could attend the wedding of his owner, April. Wampus loves dressing up and showing off!
Randomly, one day, we dressed Sadie up in the sheep costume which of course sent me into hysterics. She was confused and probably hot.
Finally, my most recent victory! Joe and I went to Woofstock in Harrisburg last weekend. It was to raise money for various dog charities. It was hippie themed with a costume contest. In two days, I made the costume for Mary-tiedying and sacraficing a favorite pair of jeans for her. We also made a sign for Sadie but scratched it at the last minute. Mary won her class and won third place overall! We got a huge basket of treats.

And now, its time to start on the costumes for Halloween. I have an idea-Mary and Sadie will be dressed together. I think I might be on call again but if so, I may just suck it up and go. Joe can't handle two dogs. No way...
