MySpace-December 31, 2007-Christmas, New Year's, Wrapping it all up...

Christmas
Hmm...let's see what I remember. Monday, Christmas Eve (and Joe's Birthday), morning we woke up and opened presents with Jackie and Casey. They provided me with some very warm cozy clothing, a book and a CD that I wanted and a stocking full of goodys. They got Riley and Roosevelt presents too. The feet have already been chewed off of Riley's ball as predicted. And the one Cosby mouse given to Roosevelt was destroyed by the dog already while I napped. I knew it would end up that way. Joe, after some stressful shopping, got me a lovely set of earrings and a necklace.
Eventually, we made our way to lunch with Kevin and Missy. And Alex. They gave me a beautiful blanket that Missy knitted. Its fantastic! After lunch, Joe, Alex and I went to the arcade. Alex had a fun time and his quarter consumption was slowed by a cup used to contain them all. We played air hockey and he beat me. No, seriously, he beat me. You're thinking that I let this eight year old win, but you're quite wrong.
Coming home, I managed to convince Alex to help me make Daddy Joe's birthday cake. It was  all going well. He dumped in the ingredients after I measured them. He stirred it. I broke out the electric mixer and against what was probably my better judgement, let him have at it. It was going great. And then the ultimate mistake. He raised the spinning beaters out of the batter. Batter, blood red batter, went every where. I couldn't help but to laugh histerically because it looked like poor Alex had just met up with a serial killer. Of course that probably didn't help him because he instantly broke out into tears. It took alot of convincing but he came back for a final (spoon) stir and then later to ice the cake. It was later revealed to me by Joe that he knew all along that I was destined for something bad to happen with the cake making experience but decided to let it play out for it would be better that way for both me and Alex. Thanks Joe.
Alex opened his presents later and then we dropped him off on our way out of town. Just outside of KC, we stopped for a soda and had a flat tire. Two cans of fix-a-flat and some air and we were on our much delayed way. We stopped a couple of times to check it and arrived in Columbia much later than planned. Roosevelt had not only missed us but had also destroyed some decorations in protest of our Christmas without him.
In the morning, we decided to go ahead and go to DeSoto...in Joe's car. We got there and opened presents shortly after. I got some car parts from my brother who promises to put them on for me, some vet books that I wanted, and some other assorted things from my list. We ate and then went to my grandparents house to eat dessert and have them open their presents. I can't believe that while I was home, we didn't go past the animals at the funeral home! Ugh.
Christmas was overall pretty nice but definatly we need to figure out something different then the across state treks.
PS-Wednesday, we went to Wal-Mart to get the tire patched but it was too badly damaged so I had to buy a new one. Meanwhile, the car decided that it really liked the idea of having the dome lights on all of the time. Two phone calls to the car experts in my life didn't come up with any answers so Joe and I just pulled the fuse.
New Year's Resolutions
Just like everyone else, I'm going to make these, work on them for the first few weeks of January and then toss them aside.
-Lose some weight. Well, I don't exercise and McDonald's is my friend. I highly doubt that I am going to make some great turnaround even with a vet school formal coming up in February. I will however try to watch what I eat, not eat fast food so often and maybe, just maybe ride that exercise bike that is Joe's coat rack. The animals are going on diets too. No more table scraps.
-Drink more water. I'm not going to cut out soda, just increase water. Expect to find me in the bathroom alot.
-Go to church. I did this one year and it really made me feel alot better. I'd love if Joe came with me. But seriously, the odds are slim that I'll even make it.
I'm pretty sure that there were a few more things too but I don't remember what they were. Drinking more water was the big one.
Wrapping up the loose ends...
Joe and I were watching one of those VH1 shows-100 Greatest Kid Actors or something. When they were talking about Peter Ostrum, Charlie in the orginal Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. It turns out he's a dairy vet in upstate New York. I think I smell an interesting preceptorship...
So my little brother, Jerry, just got engaged. He got his girlfriend, Danielle, an engagement ring for Christmas. I think its stupid. First of all, why at Christmas? Second of all, he's 22. She's 18 or 19. Third of all, they haven't even been dating two years yet.
They say that they are going to have a long engagement until after Danielle gets done with school. (She's a very nice, driven person so that's a plus. I have nothing against her. It really more the fact that my brother is an idiot.) I think long engagements (anything beyond two years unless there are certain circumstances such as war or illness) are stupid. Isn't that just dating? I mean now its dating with a couple of thousand dollars spent.
So I know that I look jealous but really its just that I think my brother is a moron. And I thought to myself (meaning me and Joe) that a long engagement means that there is still the possiblity that I could get married before Jerry. But as he's prone to doing, Joe said that he gave the engagement 18 months or so before they just decide to get married. Ugh.
Anyway, my relationship. Joe and I had been pretty much hanging out non-stop since before Christmas and surprisingly hadn't got on to each others nerves too bad. He went home last Thursday for the day and night to give me a break (which I think I was starting to need) and I missed him after only a few hours. Now he's gone to work and is sleeping all day and I have become a bum. Its really pretty impressive that with some driving arguments (Saturday) aside, that we haven't been fighting overall nearly as much as before. I think that we just needed some time to sort out our positions in the relationship now that we live in the same town. We've both made sacrifices-Joe left his family, friends and a decent job. I'm growing my hair out.
I have also learned that watching Iron Chef America is much more fun with Joe.
And after two years of dating, we are still revealing things about ourselves. I recently revealed a pet peeve of mine-dark misplaced hairs or hairs coming out of moles. And subsquently reached for the tweezers to rectify the hair that has been taunting me from Joe's upper arm all of this time. Joe only last Wednesday, revealed that he hates how my soap is in my shower. I just kind of leave it laying around. And a shower caddy was promptly bought.
Its that give and take that guarentees me having to hear him snore for the rest of our lives!

MySpace-December 23, 2007-Early Christmas

Joe and I came up to St. Joe on Friday night and have been hanging out since. I know that Joe is having a bit of a rough time because of shopping and I can be stressful but overall its been pretty good. There will be a full real Christmas/Joe's birthday blog after it actually happens.

Yesterday, it snowed like eight inches. I love it. Riley and I played in it today for awhile. I tried to make a real snowman per my last blog but the wasn't packing. I did manage to make a Devil's Tower ala Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

I miss my cat and know that he misses me. He got fixed Thursday and was in pretty good spirits when he realized that he wasn't being behind. He got a place on his belly shaved for a tattoo and had tons of green ink on it but its yet to be determined what the tattoo is of. My guess? A heart with a dagger through it and the word mom in a banner around it. I know that he will be all purrs and claws doing happy feet when we get back. (Joe will have to lock him out of the bedroom, I think.) I also hope that he's not all pussy abscessed scrotum when we return. That could be messy.

MySpace-December 20, 2007-Assorted...

Well, I'm sort of late for this but last week was finals week. I'm glad that its over. Wednesday, we had pathology. I had an A going into the test and knew what I needed to get an A in the class. Well, I figured I got close to it if I got back some points (which I did get some back but some only half back. Err.) BUT the professor added nine points to the test meaning I had to get higher than I thought. And I didn't. But then they went back and added a five point curve. That still didn't push me up enough (those damn half points back because of poor spelling or something) and I ended up with a B in the class. An 89% B. That sucks.
Thursday, we had public health. I got an A on the final and an A in the class.
Friday, we had pharmacology. I only needed a 50% or so to get a C in the class and a B was impossible. I got a B on the final and a C in the class.
Overall, B, A, C, A (in business and this is an assumption). Not bad. Now that I am as competitive (at least in my mind) as my classmates, its a shame that early on I screwed myself over. My poor grades drove my GPA and class rank down. And while it is recovering, its a slower process than I would like. And I still look stupid if you look at my class rank. Which I don't actually know but am going to guess to be some where around the mid-50s.

Friday night, Joe and I went to a Christmas party at my friend Amberle's house. It was good times. Joe made some homemade egg nog. I didn't get sick from salmonella so I'm going to assume that no one else did either. We played a game that was fun-Apples to Apples. While we were playing, a guy that I went to high school with (and have tried to avoid on campus) came over because his girlfriend was there. We didn't talk and I'm okay with that. At least now, I can say 'I'm in vet school'.
Sunday, I left a sleeping Joe in my bed and went to DeSoto. I had a dentist appointment Monday. Monday, they didn't think that I had a cavity but the dentist got really excited about an 'infection' around my fake tooth so I had to get an appointment at the dentist that put it in. I went there Wednesday and he sent me to the surgeon that put my jaw back together and neither of them thought anything was wrong. And then I went back to the orginal dentist and got my teeth cleaned. Exciting I know.
Anyway, Monday I went down to Grandma's and helped clean out a bunch of stuff. Not much got thrown away but alot of stuff got pawned off on me. She said I should go through the house and lay claim to anything I want. Um, okay? There wasn't anything. I got alot of material. What am I going to do with it? I don't know. Some things I have a vague idea for but really, I don't know.

I hope if anyone got Roosevelt a neutering off of his Christmas list that they kept the reciept because he's getting that done right now. Poor cat. Stupid cat, woke me up at 4am by clawing me and didn't stop for three hours!! He missed me so much!
Random Winter Fact About Leslie: My pet peeve about snow? Snowmen that are made and have mud and stick and leaves and stuff in them. That's gross. If there isn't enough snow to make a proper snowman, don't make one. But I say that and I don't think I've ever made a snowman before.
So I'm ready for Christmas. I'm going to do lots of errands today. And fun things. Maybe bake some cookies tonight. I have to remember the cookie cutters though...I've got a pillow to make and I'm just killing time now, the only problem is that I am killing time to nothing since I got the times that the pet food store was open wrong. Stupid me. Off to grocery shop, I guess.

MySpace-December 11, 2007-Weekend

Joe and I had a fantastic weekend.
I went over to his place Friday so he could get his car towed and I could study for a quiz I had yet to take but...we got distracted and it took longer than expected. Around dinner time, I went to take my quiz and he went to my house. After I came home furious, we went to wal-mart and bought pizza makings. We had a good time making pizza. Saturday, we hung out and then went to a Mule Club party that evening. That was pretty fun. Sunday, we hung out until Joe had to chip his car out of the ice to go to work. I had a great weekend!

This week is finals week. Am I worried? No. Is this a good thing? No. I'm not sure what to think about not having studied all weekend and just now realizing I have a comprehensive final tomorrow. Well, not just now but mostly.

MySpace-December 7, 2007-Snow!

Yesterday afternoon, while I was still in class it started to snow. Maybe an inch or so by the time I left. I went to Joe's and we hung out some and then decided to go to dinner with Frei. By then it had snowed maybe three inches and the roads were no longer clear. Joe was going to get some gas and follow me over to my place, so I went ahead and left not remembering to tell him how terrible Columbia is in the winter-no one can drive and the roads are never cleared off. Since it was also rush hour, using that term loosely, it was taking me a long time to get home. I got this call on the way from Joe calling from Black And Gold, which is this bar near his house, seems he had put his car off into a ditch! I asked him what he planned on doing, what he wanted me to do. It was decided that I would come over this afternoon and call a tow truck for him since if I did it from my cell phone it would be free. (I have some fantastic roadside assistance!) Anyway, I also decided not to go to dinner since I hate driving in the snow and had planned on making Joe drive. I didn't get any studying done though because I had a terrible headache.
The worse part of all this? Not Joe putting his car in the ditch but the fact that since he didn't come over, I had to carry the two 70 pound sand bags from my apartment (on the second floor) down to my car! That sucked.

MySpace-December 6, 2007-Toys for Tots, Etc

Cats and Christmas don't mix. Yesterday, I decided to put up my Christmas decorations. I have two long strands of green garland that I hang up. They are pretty hard to do because the tacks don't want to go into the wall and I have to stand on the top of a bar stool (getting down from is just as hard and I ripped out the crotch of my jeans). Having a five pound cat hanging from the garland makes it even harder. I normally also decorate my fake tree with some ornaments and lights in addition to my Christmas tree but I didn't because Roosevelt likes to climb it. He however likes to knock the ornaments off of the Christmas tree and the tree off of the table. He likes to wrestle with it. At least this morning, he didn't claw my head as much as he normally does.
We had an open house meeting today. Supposedly everyone has to be on a committee but I refuse to join one. They tell me if I don't sign up that they will assign me to one. Go ahead. Do it. I dare you. It doesn't mean I'll work it. Last year, I didn't do anything because no one was organized enough to tell me what to do. AND I figure by the time I bring minis to the petting zoo, a Shetland for the horse show and work for both bovine club and mule club, I will have done enough. I was one of the first people there last year and one of the last to leave. I'll help clean up again. I'm fine with that. These are the things that make me mad. They try to get people involved, try to get them excited but they use the terms of 'you have to' and 'we'll assign you if you don't do something on your own free will but you don't have any free will because we're making you'. School makes me mad.
So Toys For Tots is finally over! Here's the deal. Before Thanksgiving, I heard on the radio that Y107 was having their Toys For Tots parade. To be in the parade, all you had to do was collect some toys. Wouldn't it be a great thing for the college to be in this parade with the mules? We could fill the wagon. The idea went over really, really well with everyone except for the Mule Club president. But he got outvoted and we were going to be in this parade. I spent alot of time collecting toys and running around. At one point there were six to eight trash bags of toys in the back of my car. Last Friday, we counte the toys and deterimed the winners of the competition that we were having. We collected nearly 200 toys. Unfortunatly, the parade that was with the radio station was canceled because of the bad weather. So then I had to find a way to get the toys to the radio station but Dr.Dodam wanted some pictures so I had to organize that and no one would tell me what they wanted to do. So yesterday we took pictures with the full wagon but we didn't take as many as Dr.Dodam had orginally planned and had talked about. Because of that we had to wait before taking the toys to the radio station. The morning DJ was supposed to meet us at a certain time but he wasn't there. We met a different DJ instead. I'm so glad its done!
