I meant to write this yesterday but couldn't.
Yesterday was my day off-I did laundry. The day sort of sucked. Xanga was down (why this didn't get posted) and I broke a fork. The weather was really nice though-sunny and warm.
I found out the problem with DishNetwork. If the weather is bad (and sometimes even good) you can only get 5 of 400+ channels. One of these channels is VH1 but there is only so much I Love The '90s one can watch. (Hal Sparks=Queer As Folk?? I never knew, but mostly because Martha hoards that show like a squirrel hoards nuts for the winter!)
I'm broke. Somehow I thought that I'd be saving money by being here. 60-75 hours per week doesn't leave much time for excitement. Bills? I'd be paying them anyway in Columbia. And I figured that I would be making more at $250/week than I would at HyVee at $8.25/hour and about 20 hours per week. Somehow though, I went terribly wrong. A $94 heating bill isn't right! (MAKE SURE THE HEAT'S WAY DOWN!)
Yesterday, Jerry left for Texas where he'll be for training for 4-6 weeks before he goes to Iraq. There was a parade out of town and a ceremony the day before that supposedly was on the news.
I invite everyone to go to http://www.petersonsmith.com There you can see pictures of my boss, Gene Hackman. No, wait, that's Dr.Matthews, not the star of Hoosiers (He was in that movie, right?) Also there is a picture of Dr. Mitts aka Mr.Rasch.
I'd likd to now discuss something I hate-Caslick's procedures. Now supposedly this prevents windsucking, urine pooling (neither of which I really understand) and dirt from contaminating the reproductive tract if the external conformation isn't good. This last one I do understand. But anyway I hate Caslick's because I think that they are barbaric. Let me explain-imagine having the lips of your vulva injected with lidocaine (to make them numb) and then slivers sliced off of both sides. Then sewn shut with a larged curved needle leaving only enough room at the end to pee out of ove and to be breed. And then before foaling, the vuval is ripped back opwne with large dull scissors. Oh, all of that-horses, not people. Don't worry.

Xanga-January 26, 2005
First of all, I would like to make some comments regarding Frei's comments. I apoligize for not leaving you with a key to my apartment. I thought with the pressures of the ferrets that you already had too much on your plate. However, if you really want to have such a pressure-I am sure Martha will happily relinquest her key privledges. Also, I plan on riding the black mare through the mall while tossing out CDs to happy teenagers who look like potential Ludo fans.
Nothing much has changed. This morning I had to be at work at 6am which sucked. We looked at a newborn Throughbred foal with contracted tendons-she stood on her tiptoes- and put a splint on her. On a three week foal with tendons contracted the other way-fetlocks on the ground-we put (taped) on little aluminum plates to help him walk on his heels. Both foals are adorable! I would take them home if they let me. I did the typical washing of mares, stocking the truck and buying lunch-well, getting lunch, he bought, and driving of the huge ass suburban around.
I miss you all.
OH! I would like to address the obsecene amouts of music videos that I try to watch. Seriously, someone (Martha) clear this up for me. In the Sum 41 video for 'We're All To Blame', is it really some crazy '80s dancers in spandex in that video? And in the 'I Just Wanna Live' video, is GC really dressed up like food? Did Joel get more tattoos? (on his arms?)
Also there is this guy that works here named Joel. His dad left him and his family. Does he have a brother named Benji? I don't know...

Xanga-January 23, 2005
Well, its Sunday. My one day off. I plan on making the most of it too. Well, not really. I'll probably do laundry, watch TV, work with the horses and maybe do some shopping. Maybe some Ludo promoting to old ladies. You never know.
The work is still pretty much the same. I help take x-rays, stock the truck, wash mares, hold horses and get supplies. I havn't seen anything to terribly interesting yet. We flushed an embryo one day. The farm was also given/sold six draft mares to use as recipient mares. However, these huge mares are wild! I and another girl have one week to tame them or they get shipped back. Progress is not really happening despite starving them. One mare (a black we named Cricket) is very friendly and follows us around and lets us touch her where ever if we have grain.
I'll think of something interesting and let you know.

Xanga-January 19, 2005
Read the following like the Gilligan's Island theme song: 'Sit right back and you'll hear a tale of a fateful trip...'
And now to begin a very long entry involving my entire trip and several things I have seen and done. Enjoy!
The trip was long to say the least. I'll break it down by states.
Missouri: cold and dark. That's all.
Illinois: this state consisted of 80 miles that I didn't need to see at all. I seemingly got lost and had to take a detour through the state. I knew where I was the entire time though. There were also lots of cops.
Kentucky: There was flooding and lots of people have goats and sheep. I also saw a car fire-actually, the car wasn't on fire anymore but the firetrucks were still there.
Tennessee: Went through Nashville and most of the state was pretty boring. At one point, I asked a lady at a gas station what time it was and she looked at me like I was crazy. The mountains were really cool-they have these runaway truck ramps that go up when the interstate goes down. We wanted to try one with the Jeep but decided not to.
Georgia: The longest state ever! but we got apple cider at the welcome center. We stopped for the night in Smrnya/Marietta and ate at a Chik-Fil-A (can you believe that they have entire stores?!) Went through Atlanta early in the morning but it was still neat. Georgia also has a facination with erotic cafes. I was very disappointed by the world's largest peanut and in general disappointed by the state.
Florida: We got OJ at the welcome center. When we first got here it was warm but windy. Then it got rainy and then now its cold and sunny at least in the mornings. The ERC is in the middle of no where but very nice.
And now for my job. Basically, I ride with a vet and am his bitch. He is a very important vet and we go to very, very big Throughbred farms. I have met some very interesting people and have seen very interesting things. Basically, though I am in charge of helping the vet, making sure X-rays get developed and labs run and driving. Yes, that's right. I am in charge of driving. He has a very large Suburban as his vet truck and I have to drive to places that I don't know where they are. I think its a big deal.
My roommates aren't bad. But its early. There is still plenty of time to hate each other.
Final thoughts: The grocery store here-Publix. Can I say more? Wednesday is Ladies' night at the X-Press Lube. How many David O'Connors do you think live in Ocala? There are seagulls and palm trees in the horse pastures. And I see horses directly outside of my window.

Xanga-January 12, 2005
Well, tomorrow begins the journey that will take me directly through Hillbilly Country (aka Southern MO, Kentucky, Tennessee and Georgia). Rachel (this other girl from Mizzou that got the internship too) and I are leaving Friday from DeSoto. We're leaving at 4am! Basically, because if we left any later my mom would personally drive us there. I am pretty excited actually. I hear that there is a giant peanut on the side of the interstate somewhere in Georgia. Pictures will be taken.
If you havn't requested your souviner, I suggest that you do that soon.

Xanga-January 9, 2005
Nobody wants my half eaten food. I mean come on people! Its not like I spit in it or anything. Its just slightly used in the way that I have scooped some food out of it and ate that food.
Yesterday, I made a specific trip in the snow to ghetto Eastgate foods for some cookie dough. Did I bake it? Hell no! I specifically ignored the warning not to eat the raw dough and proceeded to eat 6 squares. I then had 3 more squares for breakfast this morning. I am slightly worried though. What if there was a recall while I was going to Florida. The news would be like: 'The Best Choice brand precut chocolate chip cookie dough from Eastgate Foods has been recalled. It is safe if you bake it but not if eaten raw. Return to Eastgate Foods for a full refund.' Of course, my mom wouldn't see if because it would be only on Columbia news and even if she did she would think 'Leslie buys HyVee brand stuff and only shops at HyVee.' SO IF THERE IS A RECALL SOMEONE TELL ME SO I DON'T DIE!

Xanga-January 8, 2005
Yesterday, Frei and Brittany (and I assume Becky had some role in this as well) had a surprise going away party for me. It was really nice. Now I have some signs to decorate my corner of the trailer.
I had spent the week in DeSoto saying goodbye and hanging out with various friends. Okay, just hanging out with Gilton, but I had the best time ever! I'm going back home on Monday to make sure my car will be okay for the journey and then here (Columbia) to pack and leave.
Tomorrow, we are having a vegetarian potluck supper. Would Tim Ferrell like to join? Probably, if he had known about it. Glenn wanted to but is visiting his family in Illinois.
Its snowy and cold. That is all.
