MySpace-April 16, 2009-Medical School and Vet School

I wonder about medical school. What is it like? Is it like vet school in any way? Could I get in? (I checked the requirements and have them but would have to retake the MCAT. But I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be accepted, BS and DVM included.)
I don't understand the whole internship thing...I think that you graduate but then are required to do an internship while after vet school, you graduate and then practice. An internship is optional after vet school.
I don't know if you get patients or even to get much role in diagnosis, testing, treatment, etc before you're an intern. Maybe someone out there can answer this.
I do know that in some medical schools you can fail a class and just have to retake it while in vet school, you get kicked out. And may or may not be allowed back in.
I find it scary that this time next year I will be essentially ready to graduate and thus ready to practice. I'm pretty sure that no matter what, I may not be ready. I might surprise myself I guess.
I was really more thinking about med school lately because since I am on clinical pathology, I get to view the hospital essentially from the outside. I see everyone run around frantically and talk to them but don't have to do it nor worry about it. And I just wonder if med school is like that. (I guess some of it would depend on how much students get involved in cases.) At vet school, everyone looks so stressed and frantic-students and clinicians alike. Everyone looks so self important in their dress clothes, white coats and talking on cell phones. (I'm not saying that I don't do the same, but looking in from the outside is very different.) The nice thing about vet school versus med school, I guess is that at least you can have a break from self-importance and  go downstairs, put on some blue coveralls and relax.
I don't remember what my point was for this blog. Something about self important looking people at school, I imagine.
PS-I got to cuddle some 8 week old golden retriver puppies today. They were super cute! And alive!

MySpace-April 14, 2009-Dear Body

Sometimes you just should write to yourself.
Dear Kidneys-
Sorry that I don't drink more water. I know I should. I hope that morning cranberry juice is helping you and your friends out! We don't want anymore nephritis.
You're great! Keep up the good work.
Thanks again,
Leslie
Dear Brain-
Sorry that school is so hard. Sorry too that we've been getting major head aches for like the past month on a regular basis. I hope that clears up soon. Or I find out what causes them.
Sorry too that we're always tired but you seem to still be doing okay. You totally rocked it out on that morphologic diagnosis test today!
Sorry that we keep thinking about absurd things that get us in trouble. I know you really want to plan that wedding but you have to get engaged first...and mentioning it causes more trouble to you. So you might want to stop that.
We'll work on getting some more sleep. (That afternoon nap was great!) But you have to keep up your end of the bargain and study hard with me.
Thanks,
Leslie
Dear Body-
Sorry that I've let you get fat. We both like things that are bad for us too much. We should work on liking fruit and vegetables more. At least we are getting those strawberries and morning cranberry juice. That's a good start.
Sorry too that we are always tired. I told Brain that we should get some more sleep but if it doesn't happen, just keep going. You're doing fine.
Maybe one day, we'll be thin and hot again. Until then, be proud of yourself. You have nice ? Shoulders?
Thanks for letting me move around and such,
Leslie
I think that covers the major body systems that I need to apoligize to. I feel bad about the things I do to my body but not enough to change them very much. I know it weird writing to your body and all but I think its needed. It makes me feel better and well, you come here for weirdness anyway.

MySpace-April 9, 2009-Websites That Make Me Laugh

1)     www.cakewrecks.blogspot.com

3)

4)

Enjoy!
I decided to include some videos.
1)
SpongeBob Burger King Commercial There is a longer one but its not nearly as good. You can find it on YouTube.
2)
Dunkin Donuts Fritalian Commercial You might remember when I watched this commercial several times before each test. I suggest going to YouTube and search for Dunkin Donuts and They Might Be Giants. All of the commericals that TMBG did, are great! Moving, All Night Blowout, One Million Degrees, Things I Like To Do, Power Walk, Time Has Taken My Boat Away and a few more...all of them are great!  Its my understanding that TMBG recorded about a dozen songs for DD. That just makes me hungry...

MySpace-April 5, 2009-Bacon Doughnut!

I'm not practicing my toxicology presentation as I intended. I got absorbed into pony pedigree research again! Damn you internet!
Anyway, Joe and I finally reached a standing agreement that if he goes out in the morning before I get up (especially if its a school day), he is required to get me some doughnuts. (The amount still needs to be worked on. One or two, maybe three okay, a dozen is too many!) Joe just has this habit of staying up way to late and not being able to sleep OR he wakes up just as I go to bed (This is a Wednesday occurance mostly.) and then can't sleep/wakes up. Joe then goes out to get a soda, paper, cigarettes, drive around, whatever. And now he comes back with doughnuts and I win! And can forgive him for not walking the dogs.
So anyway, Saturday morning when I get up, Joe's been up, out and back to bed already. There's a note on the board for me. There's doughnuts on the stove. One of them is a bacon doughnut.
Now I know what you're thinking. But let me explain it to you. Its a long john type doughnut with maple frosting (yum!) then it has bacon on top. So the maple and bacon flavors really work together-all salty and sweet together. Its not just sprinkled on top either; its like the recently iced doughnut was pressed into bacon pieces. Its covered. The bacon isn't fresh fried bacon. Its the dried salad toppings, but not like Bacos or something. The different textures of chewy soft doughnut and chewy harder bacon works well together.
I tried this doughnut. (Joe had one on a test run the week before.) AND I LOVED IT! For all the taste and texture reasons mentioned above. I do love bacon. Who am I kidding? I love pork and all products made from pigs, including footballs and hair brushes. Well, not really footballs. I do love that pig ears keep my dogs entertained. And I love porkrinds. Well, not love. Its more of a like situation with them. I eat them on the way home from Joe town alot. Maybe its something (i.e. hog slaughter) in the air that makes me want them then. Riley likes those trips.
On two other notes-Roosevelt is a traitor. He's in Joe's bed right now because I'm not in mine. And I am in charge of refilling 'Grandpa's medicine cabinet' i.e. Joe's pill box. Joe wants to take so many supplements and won't do it if they are not right there in front of him. I bought one of those seven day pill strip box things mostly as a joke but now we fill it up and Joe tries to be more vigilant about taking things. If he doesn't do it before bed though, he ends up puking.
That's all! Have a great day tomorrow!

MySpace-April 2, 2009-April Fool's

If you followed the link yesterday, consider yourself RickRolled! Apparently, its where a link takes you to the video for a Rick Astley song no matter what the link was supposed to be to. I seriously, only just learned about it.
I played an April Fool's joke on Joe but he only found out about it this morning. As usual, I brewed his tea but I added gelatin when it was hot...essentially creating tea jello in the tea pitcher. My pathology group just waited for the results because they thought it was pretty funny. Joe reacted well and there was some real tea waiting for him behind the jello.
Yesterday, keeping with an April Fool's theme, Laura Goldman got called because something was coming in to get necropsied. It was a chimpanzee! Apparently, it was shot by a sherriff's deputy because it attacked a cop car when he went to the place on a report of the chimpanzee running loose on the highway. The cop also found a puppy mill and two more monkeys. However, luckily, we (MU) didn't have the facilities to do a necropsy on a chimp. Crazy!
Today, I worked on several errands after school-Joe came with me. We bought dog food, ate chinese and then went to Hobby Lobby. Hobby Lobby had patterns on sale and I was going to buy one of cat clothes. Unfortunately, they were out of that particular pattern. I did buy some paint for repainting the lawn gnome though. I still have a ton of errands to do-get prescription refilled and straightened out (Wal-Mart is trying to screw me out of anti baby pills!), buy ham and buy material and stuff.
I really started to feel sick about the time I got home from school. My larynx hurt and I am pretty sure I have calf diptheria. I'm on call tomorrow so I hope I feel better.
I'm going to my pony club meeting on Saturday. I'm on the board of directors. I rarely go to any meetings and actually, my dues aren't paid either. (This could be a problem since I lost my checkbook.) Anyway, I'm really going to bitch about the fact that whoever decides when we are having meetings never bothers to tell me. Its super annoying. And a lot like vet school!
Today, at vet school, we had a crawdad boil with all of the fixings! It was really good.
PS-This is my new fun website!
