MySpace-August 2, 2007-Federally Inspected For Your Pleasure

Hmm...I haven't blogged for a while and I know all of my fans (Casey and Jackie) are dying to know what I've been up too...
Well, I might of had my identity stolen. I got this notice for a ticket in my school mailbox. It was for a ticket on the University of Missouri ST. LOUIS campus. Seeing as that I've never been on that campus, it wasn't me. And esp. it wasn't me seeing as that I don't drive a black Dodge with Illinois plates. However, another Leslie Pope does and I was the only one with that name in the system. Hence I get the ticket. I think its okay now, I don't think my identity was stolen. I think people are dumb though.
I went to the Ozark Empire Fair last weekend with the mule team. We were there for three days and in three parades. The mules freaked out about a rubber mat the first night, the second night it poured down rain on us and the third night I drove and the mules (and weather) were perfect. Of course, we didn't have any trailer lights. I suggested checking them before we left because we'd have to drive home in the dark. Jesse, the president, didn't think it was needed however was proved wrong when they didn't work. We still drove home without any lights.
I spent the week (four days) with a USDA/FSIS vet. Dr.Clarkson is pretty cool. I saw some beef slaughter (cow have A LOT of blood), aged some cows, saw hot dogs and scones being made, did some residue test for antibiotics (I can't believe knowing how to streak a plate came in handy!) and talked about working for the USDA, BSE, recalls, actions, etc.
I was promised that getting worms from pork was a percent of a percent chance. Here's a video that I don't believe-
Worms and Coke And Pork I also learned that there are 4-7 cows with BSE in the US yet to be found. However, there is no way that they got BSE the same way most of the cows in the UK did-i.e. eating other cows. They just get it spontanously like some people get cancer. It just happens. And there are all kinds of protective measures in place to prevent tissue that could transmit it into the food supply. So eat some beef and some pork!
Additionally, while my ultimate goal/dream is to be a vet in a large dairy practice where my sole responsiblity will be several dairy farms, working for the USDA/FSIS is a real possiblity. I enjoyed everything I saw and did. I got more excited about it each day too. I really think that should the time come when I get tired of private practice, can't be a large animal vet, am not making enough money or want to spend more time with my family that working for the FSIS is a great option for me!

Now I've got to go home and clean my dirty house. My stupid wish-washy boyfriend has changed his mind again and now is coming down. I've got a cake to bake! Ahh!
